underwater
Submerged in the green realm of an underwater world with breath held and eyes squinted to behold a magic moving world of constant change. It changes with every wave and with every tide, every day, every moon and every season. Any given moment is totally unique.
Images captured under the ocean surface – mostly swimming under through and behind breaking waves. Most of these images are from the Northern Illawarra area – between Bulli and Stanwell park. They are taken using a Canon 400EOS DSLR in a custom water housing made by Dave Kelly
Many years ago I realised the ocean’s calming, cleansing and energising qualities.
I just love to be immersed completely in the ocean and feel all of its moods. It is
such a magic and beautiful place… the feeling of diving under a wave and watching
it billow and churn overhead is just awesome. It is solitary and dreamlike under
there – a space that you can revisit but never stay, just a moment, a fleeting
relationship between part of yourself and part of the ocean,a place so different to
the rest of concious life – there is hardly a context to put it in or a framework in which
to place it to relate it back to day to day life….
