Late summer session
Friday, February 26th, 2010 | Uncategorized | No Comments

February has been a good month. Plenty of swell. Never perfect or epic but plenty of solid days. Finally the elements combined this morning to get me out with the housing shooting in the water. The third last day of summer, the swell was running 3-4 foot sets from the south and the light Sou’Wester made for some glass at the Point with some pretty dramatic clouds as a backdrop…

A cruisy, fun, laid back session was had by the few on hand. At one point mid morning there were only 6-8 guys sharing the steady supply of waves. Dreamlike. A great way to finish Summer..

The full session will be up in the next few days and autumn will be here with it’s reliable offshore winds and pulses form the south. Enjoy the warm water and surfing in your boardies while you can…
Stay tuned…

Ahh, mid February. Last weeks East swell is just a fading ghost of its former self. There are still a couple of waves to be found but it has that familiar summer feel with the Nor’easter blowing and the sun burning down… But summer itself is fading, with only a couple of weeks until Autumn begins with it’s reliable clear offshore mornings and pulses from the South…Here’s a little reminder from last March…

Well the drought is over. Five days of swell and plenty of rain too. I hope that you found a wave amongst the onshores, rain squalls and brown water. There were some good options on Thursday and Friday last week. Though the blueys were a real problem…

The crap light and persistent rain made shooting difficult – so i just got out there with my board and enjoyed it. The swell lasted into the weekend though the hungry crowds were at the predictable spots for the howling southerly on Saturday.

Bulli also hosted the worlds biggest surf boat carnival over the weekend. There were clubs from all over Oz. Saturday was pretty challenging with the wind and big swell. There were some great waves and spectacular wipeouts.

February. It’s when you can start hoping for some swell. Some significant swell. The forecast boffins are talking up a pretty solid East swell for the second half of the week. Yesterday there were some great little waves around the place. Nothing too big but just fun and consistent. So I was up early this morning hoping for more of the same. But no. Easterly. Onshore. 15 knots at dawn.

Luckily there was quite a sunrise to keep me busy with the camera. No waves today. Just dog walkers and joggers on the beach. Stay tuned for developments later this week…
