Commitment

There was some hope that the 6-8ft from the south might arrive this morning but the reality was that it peaked earl on Monday afternoon. There were still some fun waves to be had this morning with the south swell getting into some places and the SW wind cleaning and holding it up…

The 2-3 ft barrels were perfect for pulling into for the committed and great to shoot…

Though it didn’t last long as the tide went out, the swell faded and the winds turned SE…I will get the rest of the session up this afternoon. But now its back to waiting and hoping for more swell.

Buddhist teachings say that disappointment comes from expectation; an attachment to an idea that something should be a certain way. If it is not as good as expected then it is harder to enjoy.

It is hard to ignore a forecasted swell when there is a big onion low in the Tasman and 100km/h offshore winds in the days leading upto its arrival.

It was weaker than expected and peaked early Monday arvo with 4 ft sets at Sandon. Those who were getting amongst it certainly didn’t look disappointed. Who cares what could have been…

There has been plenty going on. The sky, the sea the winds; changing constantly. There has been plenty of swell around – strong south on Thursday and Friday with stiff north winds. There were waves around but hard to find the perfect curl…

Things are brewing, isobars are collecting – stay tuned and see if you can get monday and Tuesday off work. The boffins are agreeing that something is happening. Though their track record in the last few days has been pretty bad… Hopefully they have got this one right…
Red sky morning….

A freaky morning, especially for those who were out and about early… and there were not many..

The sky was red. These photos have not been altered. It had a bit of an end of the world feel to it.

There were some neat little waves going, but the grit on your teeth from the dust was a bit much.

Things cleared up later on.. the good thing about all this is that the low pressure system that brought us the wind that brought us the dust is heading off to the south tasman.. so there is a chance of some very significant swell coming this weekend and early next week…
Meanwhile any outdoors activity is only for the super keen with conditions this windy.
