Surchin…
Thursday, August 6th, 2009 | Uncategorized | No Comments

I always used to think that I was unlucky if I got an urchin spine in my foot coming in at Sandon. Well I went for a bit of a snorkel off the boatsheds the other day and got a shock. The number of urchins I saw was amazing. If you put your foot down out there and don’t get an urchin spine then you are pretty lucky…These pictures don’t really show just how many there are. Thousands.

There were masses of black ones, these really angry looking red ones and even some with an amazing green sheen in the light. So beware!! I will never wade in the shallows out there again!

Back in Action!

The weekend saw a long period South swell pushing up the coast. It had been talked up a bit by the ever optimistic swell forecasters and so Saturday morning was pretty busy with people driving round looking for the action. There were waves to be had if you found the spot!

Sharkies had a wave on the lefts and rights. It was short of the predicted 4-6 ft but there were plenty of clean fun waves with the occasional significant set pushing through.

Water temp has dropped to 16 degrees but the sun was shining. Winds stayed offshore all day. A great start to August. Lets hope that the rest of the month keeps producing the goods!
