A one day wonder swell. It was here and now it is gone. My camera housing is out of action so I was not in the water shooting but sure had a great day surfing. The swell started arriving on Sunday evening, pushing onto the East swell magnets. There is always a crew keen for Thommo’s.

Early on Monday morning there were big sets and big lulls.. It got more consistent as the morning went on with a period of 12 to 14 seconds making the waves shape perfectly. Plenty of guys were out with stories of 5 second barrels from Little Austi and stand up spread arm barrels at Austi.
If you think that is not possible then check www.sandonpointphotos.com for some great images!

It wasn’t just surfers getting out and enjoying the energy of this beautiful winter swell…

The different swell forecasters all agreed that there was going to be some action from the east. It hadn’t arrived by Sunday morning but there was plenty going on in the atmosphere.

It was one of those mornings when you felt like part of nature. You couldn’t ignore the turning of the earth with you and the other passengers upon it…

No Shortage

So far this winter, barely a day has gone past when you can’t get a wave if you really want one. There has been plenty of swell and the wind has been mostly favourable. The quality may not have been A1 but there has been something to ride.

If you were at the right place at the right time there have been some great opportunities.

As one swell fades the next one arrives… the surf boffins are making a call of 5-6ft from the East on Sunday rising to 6-8ft on Monday so get everything that needs to be done done coz there could be some serious lines to make the most of. Unfortunately my water housing set-up is still out of action so I will be limited to land based shots and then have to surf instead of shoot…
