Back in the water

It has been a long time between swells. The first serve of Autumn arrived on a Sunday so there were plenty of people making the most of it. A little crowded but plenty of waves going.

The winds stayed from the West for most of the morning and the 2-3 ft of swell hit a few spots nicely. Paradise found with clear water and sunny conditions….

The water has cooled a few degrees but that didn’t deter the keen…

Hopefully this is just the beginning of something more substantial… Stay tuned and tomorrow I will get the rest of today’s pictures up in “Sessions”.
Stand up

There has been a proliferation of stand up paddle boards around here in the last 6 to 12 months. The first time I saw a picture, it was a guy charging Mavericks on one. They are also well suited to the current conditions here, smoothly gliding through the glassy dawn…

Summer has been memorable only with its almost complete lack of significant swell. The calender says it is autumn but the seasons have not turned. Every few days you can check the forecast with new hope, but for now the only turns in the ocean are the daily tides and those done at the end of each lap by the early morning swimmers. If two weeks out of the water makes you feel a bit out of condition, then how do you feel after 5 or 6 months?

It is hard to think of a redeeming feature of the blue bottle. Science has not yet provided an explanation of any positive contribution they make to the world. Worst of all, their presence means that it has gone nor’east and there is little hope for a decent wave. This morning they were even keeping the swimmers out of the ocean pools as they washed in on the big rising full moon tide….
