Keep your eye on the prize

Tuesday morning and still a solid but somewhat wonky 4ft of swell coming from the south. The wind held off for most of the early morning and when it did start blowing was from the NW before turning to the familiar old NE. There were waves at several locations with barrels being had at Stanny, Coledale and Austi amongst others… Due to my own need to surf I only managed to get out with the camera a bit later in the morning when I saw a few barrels going at Austi being shared by a surfer or two and a couple of lid kids, who were getting deep but not always keeping their eyes on the prize…

Six foot from the south. The early crew probably got the best of it. I thought it would peak later but the tide following the full moon was pretty high and the wind swung from the SW to the south. Conditions got less ideal through the morning and most waves were messy and sectioning. The picture sums up most peoples experience but there were some gems – check the session…

Snnday morning and the day started with 1 ft swell knocked back by howling westerlies that are keeping the all but the keenest cyclists, surfers, joggers and dog walkers at home.
The winds however, are an omen of good things to come. The low pressure system they are made by hopefully passes over us and heads down towards New Zealand from where it will push up some southerly joy on Monday and Tuesday…

Saturday morning and the rain is clearing, there is a messy NE windswell pushing occasional head high waves onto some spots but the wind is undecided in its direction. For those keen enough to be out and about there were some rewards…
