February. It’s when you can start hoping for some swell. Some significant swell. The forecast boffins are talking up a pretty solid East swell for the second half of the week. Yesterday there were some great little waves around the place. Nothing too big but just fun and consistent. So I was up early this morning hoping for more of the same. But no. Easterly. Onshore. 15 knots at dawn.

Luckily there was quite a sunrise to keep me busy with the camera. No waves today. Just dog walkers and joggers on the beach. Stay tuned for developments later this week…

Back on the bike for 2010. I have had a bit of a break from shooting over summer as there has been a lack of significant swell except for the one day wonder swell that took everyone by surprise… Well I was so wave starved that i was too busy surfing to take a decent photo..

The day that I decide to get back into it, there is nothing much happening. A day typical of most of this summer; cloudy, not really that hot, onshore and 1 to 2 foot mush…. and the summer curse lurking in the water, waiting to spoil a nice day at the beach…

Though stay tuned because the computers that spend all their time churning through the weather data for the sole purpose of predicting our next swell are starting to light up for next week….

Pretty Good…

A great little swell came today – normally it would have gone unnoticed with the Noreaster changing it to mush but we were blessed with all day westerlies that groomed the 2-3ft waves (with 4ft bombs at some locations) into perfection .

sneakmain-2

There were waves all day with barrels to be had at a few locations. The crowd pressure was pretty mellow. With daylight savings hopefully everyone got their share before or after work…

The rest of the days shots can be viewed in the “sessions” link to the right.
There is some big SE swell predicted for Tuesday/Wednesday to welcome in summer….

Clean

There have been some alright days in the last week with a bit of wind swell making for 2ft waves here and there. The best thing has been the water – the temp is up a couple of degrees and it is just super clear. The underwater visibility is pretty much as good as it gets around here.

clean-2

If you have been lucky and found the right break you may have scored some fun little waves. There have been some arvo semi glass-offs and some pretty still mornings making for some fun little sessions.

There weren’t too many options other than takin’ it easy and just enjoying the last week of spring
